in wastewater - fed aquaculture a sustainability gamechanger ?

A recent study conducted in Kumasi ,Ghana and published in the journal heliyon suggest the waste water fed aquaculture could simultaneously provide much - needed investment in the city's water treatment infrastructure and satisfy local nutrition needs.

in the trail , the researchers successfully grew african catfish in ponds at the city's local waste water treatment plant without using feed inputs. A cost benefit analysis conducted after the culture period shows that the waste water fed business model is profitable and could provide consistent investment in Kumasi's water treatment infrastructure.

the researchers also found that locals  in Kumasi were often willing to purchage and eat the cratfish produced at the plant suggesting that consumers are willing to embrace waste water fed aquaculture ar a sutainable food source.
